LASIK in more detail and help you determine if either procedure is right for you. LASIK patients normally get better eye acuity of 75% to 85% within 24 hours. This compares favourably against the two older surgical techniques, radial keratotomy (RK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), where healing & improved vision takes weeks or months to occur. LASIK, short for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a type of refractive surgery that uses a laser to reshape the cornea of the eye. It is an outpatient procedure that is performed by a refractive surgeon to correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

Laser eye surgery is relatively new and we are still in the process of determining the short- and long-term effects of this technology. Laser eye surgery is performed by cutting a small flap in the cornea so the surgeon can reshape the eye underneath. That's why it's important to avoid anything that might damage the flap as it heals. Laser eye surgery is for the people who have Myopia, Hyperopia, or Astigmatism. Myopia means nearsightedness, the ability to see objects which are nearer clearly.

Custom LASIK frequently results in better than 20/20 vision correction. Custom LASIK eye surgery is unique because it is designed specifically for your eyes. Using Wavefront™ technology, a detailed map of a person’s cornea is created that helps identify the vision aberrations on a patient’s own cornea.

Corneal Procedures The corneal incision procedure, sometimes referred to as a keratotomy, is appropriate in cases of misshapen corneas interfering with optical refraction. Poor refraction mean poor eyesight, and LASIK eye surgery which reshapes the cornea will improve refraction. Corneal Flap narcolanza posted a photo: If you look at the large size, you can see part of the corneal flap from my surgery. It is at about 7 o’clock. Corneal onlays provide vision correction similar to implantable lenses , contact lenses , or intraocular lenses used in cataract surgery . But a corneal onlay, unlike artificial lenses, is a collagen or collagen-like substance made up mostly of liquid.

Generally, laser eye surgery is safe, but just like any other surgical procedure, it does involve certain risks. Although a large number of patients have been able to stop using their glasses after surgery and achieved a 20/40 vision or even better, there are still some things you should take into account before choosing a safe’s laser eye surgery.

For the Phinney family, a dream and a challenge

Like any proud father, Davis Phinney marvels at the man his son has become.

It is not because Taylor Phinney juggles his senior year's studies at Boulder High School while training as an elite cyclist.

Or because he speaks fluent Italian. Or that he is, according to his coach, Neal Henderson, "physiologically phenomenal," a perfect combination of his parents.

What makes Davis Phinney most proud is something more personal.

"To get the benefit of me," he often tells his son, "you have to be somewhat responsible for me, too." And he has been. Nothing has made Taylor, 17, grow up faster than watching his father's body decay.

Phinney, 48, was a brazen sprinter and the star of the 7-Eleven professional cycling team in the 1980s and early '90s. He was a risk-taker with beefy biceps, nicknamed Thor, the Norse god of thunder.

Lifter presses on

Sometimes the weightlifter feels it in his joints. But its a good bet there are guys his age feeling the same aches and not even thinking about bench pressing 250 pounds.

Jim Carlson is pressing for the Wisconsin Senior Olympics while pushing 69 years old. His lifetime of weightlifting is reaching a new chapter when other lifters are putting down weights, not lifting them.

Its hard, its physical. Some lifters get into their 50s and they just dont do it anymore, said Carlson on a March morning, the grayness outside contrasted with the indoor light bouncing off the equipment and mirrors of Snap Fitness.

Carlson manages the fitness center on Main Street in Rice Lake and is one of its dedicated users in addition to setting up aerobic and weightlifting programs for customers.

Study Outlines Risk Of Treatment-Resistant Infection Following Facelift Surgery

About one-half percent of patients undergoing facelift surgery at one outpatient surgical center between 2001 and 2007 developed methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections, according to a report in the March/April issue oArchives of Facial Plastic Surgery, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

MRSA is now a leading cause of infections at surgical sites and in skin and soft tissues, according to background information in the article. It is much more virulent than other forms of staph infection, spreads through tissue more rapidly, is more difficult to control and causes infections that are more expensive to treat and are associated with higher death rates.

Gardiner out as Mayo eye back-to-back wins

WHAT A difference a win makes. Three games to go and all against teams currently below us in the table, Mayos hopes of retaining their Allianz National Football League top-flight status in this season of transition have looked a whole pile rosier since last Sunday weeks defeat of All-Ireland champions Kerry at Castlebar.

In fact, compare that morale boosting 0-16 to 1-12 win with Kildares capitulation the previous night in Derry, where they were beaten 1-16 to 0-8, and youd think that the two league points on offer at Newbridge next Sunday are as good as in Mayos bag. Only a fool would make such an assumption.

Mayo boss John OMahony must prepare not only for Sundays clash, but for the rest of the league campaign, without the services of Peadar Gardiner, who sustained a broken jaw in an accidental collision during the second half of last weekends club encounter between Crossmolina and Knockmore.
